Bernie Behrend, JD

With twenty-four years of mediation experience, Bernie Behrend is one of the most experienced mediators in the Pittsburgh area. In addition to his private work with separating and divorcing couples, Mr. Behrend mediates for the Family Division of the Allegheny County Court of Common Pleas, the U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission, the U.S. Postal Service, the U.S. District Court for the Western District of Pennsylvania, the National Association of Securities Dealers, and Impartial Dispute Resolution Services.

Mr. Behrend is President of the Mediation Council of Western Pennsylvania. and a member of the Association for Conflict Resolution, the Pennsylvania Council of Mediators, the ADR Committee of the Allegheny County Bar Association and a founding member of Mediators Without Borders.

A popular lecturer and trainer on mediation and conflict resolution, Mr. Behrend is an adjunct faculty member at Duquesne University's School of Leadership and Professional Advancement where he teaches “Conflict Resolution” and “Mediating Organizational Disputes” among other courses.

In addition to a number of certifications, Mr. Behrend holds a BA in philosophy from Vassar College and earned his J. D. from the University of Pittsburgh.
